Futures seminar

Date: 28 March, 2009 - 15:00

Afterall Showroom seminar

We had a really interesting and lively seminar organised by Pablo Lafuente and Melissa Gronlund of Afterall and Emily Pethwick of  The Showroom Gallery.

I screened Museum Futures: Distributed, a machinima record of the centenary interview with Moderna Museet’s executive Ayan Lindquist in June 2058. It explores a possible genealogy for contemporary art practice and its institutions, by re-imagining the role of artists, museums, galleries, markets, manufactories and academies.

The discussion evolved around how we might imagine the future, and amongst other things possible scenarios, the terror of uninhibited public generosity, reversing the resource flow using variants of the Tobin taxes, antagonism, art practice, the generic, future subjectivities and embodied texts.

You can see a sliver of Museum Futures or read the transcribed machinima dialogue
