Ends Meet

25 Jun 2014

ExchangeI contributed a version of Generosity to Ends Meet: Essays on Exchange, a publication developed by Critical Writing students at the Royal College of Art

Ends Meet presents a collection of responses to the theme of exchange. It considers the term laterally from cultural, economic, historic, philosophical and political angles, questioning what happens when we give and receive, and what it means to ascribe value.

In the wake of the collapse of the financial sector and subsequent recessions, the group of writers consider what else we can do to get by, and how else we can make Ends Meet?

The term ‘exchange’ is interrogated to reveal relations between the material, conceptual and the personal.

Among other things, we underline the obstinate materiality still at work within seemingly immaterial systems. Our myriad responses in this book join to become more than the sum of their parts. Coming together facilitates exchange; it is what happens when ends meet.

Essays are accompanied by a series of guest voices: Neil Cummings, Susanne Kuechler, Katrina Palmer, Ann Pettifor and Nina Power.

Designed by Jonas Berthod and Andrew Brash.
