Performa09 , the Vera List Center and Parsons present the American premiere of Museum Futures: Distributed at the New School auditorium, Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, 66 Fifth Avenue, NY, NY
Museum Futures: Distributed is a machinima record of the centenary interview with Moderna Museet’s executive Ayan Lindquist in June 2058. It explores a possible genealogy for contemporary art practice and its institutions, by re-imagining the role of artists, museums, galleries, markets, manufactories and academies.
The project was commissioned by Moderna Museet Stockholm, Sweden, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2008.
Neil Cummings and Marysia Lewandowska collaborated between 1995 and 2008. They developed projects with museums, banks, galleries, archives, auction houses, schools, and department stores. Their varied projects consistently explored the relationship between art and its institutions, through the related domains of politics, economics and organization. They worked with Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, London; Kunstwerke, Berlin; and Tapies Foundation, Barcelona.
After the screening, respondents Jamer Hunt and Christiane Paul will be in conversation with Marysia Lewandowska.
Presented by the Vera List Center for Art and Politics in collaboration with Performa09 and Parsons’ Streaming Culture/Art & Politics series theme Speculating on Change.
